OUR PROJECTS
From Vision to Transformation in Western Uganda
At the heart of Kabarole Tours is a belief that tourism should do more than showcase destinations—it should uplift communities, protect ecosystems, and create opportunity.
Founded in 1992, Kabarole Tours has grown into more than a travel company. It is the foundation of a long-term commitment to the people and landscapes of Kabarole District and beyond.
A Timeline of Purpose & Progress
1992 — The Beginning
Kabarole Tours is established, laying the groundwork for sustainable tourism in Western Uganda.
2001 — Environmental Stewardship
Richard led the reclamation of the Kihingami Wetlands —restoring a vital ecosystem and reinforcing a commitment to conservation.
2006 — Investing in Skills
Construction of a training facility begins, with pilot programs designed to prepare a new generation of professional tour guides for a growing tourism sector.
2013 — Education for Impact
Launch of Kihingami Vocational Educational & Tourism Training Institute (KVETTI), an institution dedicated to higher learning in: Tourism & Hospitality, Business Studies and Hotel Management
2017 — First Graduates
KVETTI celebrates its first graduating class—marking a major milestone in building local capacity and professional excellence in tourism.
2018–2020 — Growth & Partnerships
Expansion into regional collaboration, supporting and promoting partner properties like:Rwenzori View Guest House and Fort Suites
2017
In this period the company also accepted the first batch of international volunteers. They would go on to enjoy their time in Fort Portal and the region fully engaged in day-to-day operations, at Kabarole Tours. We have since had similat participants from Germany, Italy and Israel further strengthening cross-cultural exchanges.
A Vision for Conservation
Alongside tourism and education, a long-term vision emerges: advancing reptile and butterfly conservation as part of a broader ecological commitment.
2022 — Hospitality Reimagined
Transformation of a former homestead into Orucuba Gardens & Resort, blending comfort, nature, and community-centered hospitality.
2023 — Empowering the Next Generation
Launch of Chimp Pedals—a movement encouraging school-going children to embrace cycling for physical development, confidence, and exploration.
Today, Chimp Pedals also collaborates with Kabarole Tours to deliver immersive biking experiences across the region.
Beyond Tourism
This journey reflects more than business growth—it is a story of how we are movers of environmental restoration, conservation, education and skills development.
We are dedicated to creating opportunities for more youths and empowering them throughout their own development.
Each milestone represents a step toward a future where tourism is not just experienced—but shared, sustained, and transformative.
Cheers, to more growth.

KNOW YOUR GUIDE
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident, and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. The latter will take care of itself. It always does.
